Happenings

I went to Equip on Saturday with Yvonne for the first time. It was great! Very clear Bible teaching and challenging too. The talks were on James 2 and I've been challenged in many ways. I think I tend to shy away from very err... asian people (to put it in a nice way). Who else clips their nails on public transport though??!? Yeh, despite the disgusting habits of Asian people in general (like cutting nails on public transport! and spitting and the bluntness and cutting remarks) I shouldn't show favoritism as to who I hang around because that type of behaviour is incompatible with the gospel.

I was encouraged to not be complacent but continually look for opportunities to serve others, even if it ruins my neatly planned schedule of my day.

Later I met up with Zuo and we went to Lonestar for dinner. We saw this massive moose head on the wall. Are mooses as big as horses or bigger? Coz the head we saw was MASSIVE!

Then we went to Bass Hill drive in to watch 'When a stranger calls.' That movie....is one of the worst horror films ever! I think I'm more scared from an episode of 'Supernatural' than any scene from that movie. The movie was so random too. Oh well, it was nice sitting in Zuo's new car that has heated seats!! Yup very comfortable :)

:)

This guy from ALIV (Australian League of Immigration Volunteers) came to speak to UNSW students on volunteering in immigration detention centers. It sounds like an exciting initiative, especially because people in immigration detention centers or have come out of one, live in stressful environments, which is often compounded by the inability to access public health, education and support (unless it is through a church or charity).

The kids and the family programs involve excursions, picnics, camps and general support to make their lives a little bit more cheerful. The programs involve once a month contact.

Anyone else interested in applying to volunteer? I know it's not church related, and I'm sure there are churches that work with immigration detention centers, but ya this looks like a great opportunity for building relationships with kids in need of the gospel. You can also work with adults too or do admin stuff (like website development).

Craft crazy

Jenay told me about the Sydney craft fair, which is next month! How exciting!! I think I've got the craft bug. Jenay says the craft fair is like the Easter show for craft lovers.

Anyone want to come? Jenay and I are thinking of going. Oh and if craft and quilting isn't your thing, the Sydney bead fair will be there as well.

There will be craft classes, stalls to see (and hopefully freebies hehe) and marveling at the displays.

It costs $15 to go and you can visit the link below for more info!

Craft is usually something older women enjoy (yes a very broad generalisation). So if I'm into knitting or cross-stitch now, what will I do when I am old?? Still cross-stitching?? Maybe I'll move into making a tapestry or something ahhh hehehe can't wait to retire, then I'll have so much time to craft!

Oooh I also want to learn how to knit baby booties, because babies have such small feet and they are soo cute. So when all my friends start having babies, I can knit them baby booties.

Obsessed...

Last Tuesday I went into Spotlight to purchase a cross-stitch craft, because it's one of the things I wanted to learn this year and my reward for finishing all my mid-semester take-homes.

It's quite relaxing but I haven't put it down since I bought it. Every waking hour has been spent cross-stitching! When I travel on the train or bus, I'm cross-stitching. Before I go to sleep I cross-stitch until I can no longer see the grid. I've cross-stitched instead of studying for my PTC exam on Tuesday. I've cross-stitched while in-between classes in the library. I was tempted to pull out my cross-stitch during class, but managed to control myself...Barely.

Today is the day I finished the cross-stitch! It needs a few finishing touches and a frame, but it's essentially done! I can move on with my life, I am no longer the slave of the cross-stitch.

Ahhhh isn't it beautiful :-) I did that yay one of my greatest achievements to date heehee

Cheap and Cheerful

Farewell Franklins! No longer will I gaze down your wider aisles.
Nor will I pace the confectionary aisle in search of dinner...
I'll miss reading magazines on quiet Friday nights
I'll miss talking to all the cashiers speculating when we will go down
It's been a wonderful 4.5 years
It's sad it had to end
But yipeee!!!
When I think of oranges I will not think of 5483, or for brocolli 4060 *sigh*
I won't have to deal with smelly customers
Or look at the new ugly cigarette packets!
